From the President

Today at 1:45 PM ET, AACOM's President and CEO will present at a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine online workshop. Dr. Cain will highlight AACOM's Students Assist America effort to mobilize health professions students in response to COVID-19.

Recruitment

Demonstrating the continuing growth and appeal of osteopathic medicine, a record number of osteopathic medical school applications has been received this current cycle, with months still to go before the deadline.

On November 30, we held our first-ever national event to celebrate, honor and recognize the hard work and dedication of the osteopathic medical school applicants who were accepted to join the Class of 2025. We are excited to welcome you to the osteopathic profession and for your decision to Choose DO!

Grants

The winning proposal, designed by AACOM’s Transformation in Medical Education Using Technology Working Group, is for an online gamified learning map that can be used by all osteopathic medical schools to teach medical students in the core areas of health systems sciences.

Topics of particular interest include those that identify the distinctive features of osteopathic medical education; assess the impact technology and analytics are having on teaching, learning, assessment and faculty development; and advance the core competencies, Entrustable Professional Activities and milestones that prepare medical students for residency. Primary investigators must be educators at a US college of osteopathic medicine. Proposals are due March 1, 2021.

Leadership

On December 6, the Osteopathic Health Policy Fellowship (OHPF) will graduate its 26th class of fellows. The 2019 – 2020 fellows join the ranks of more than 260 osteopathic physicians and healthcare professionals who have completed this national program, which prepares leaders to engage in the formulation, analysis and advocacy of unbiased policy that seeks to improve population health. Applications for the 2021 – 2022 OHPF class will open in January.
