AACOM Press Releases

After advocating for months for the deployment of qualified health professions students to be part of the national COVID-19 vaccination effort, AACOM’s Students Assist America initiative hailed the Biden Administration’s decision to amend the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act COVID-19 Declaration. The change opens the door for almost one million skilled medical, nursing, pharmacy, dental, veterinary, PA, optometry and other health professions students to administer COVID-19 vaccines with supervision.

AACOM thanks Congress and the Biden Administration for bringing us closer to COVID-19 recovery by providing crucial support to our country’s higher education and healthcare systems. Among other provisions, this vital legislation funds the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education Program, addresses health professional burnout, mental health and suicide, bolsters vaccine rollout and supports osteopathic medical schools and students.

Awards & Leadership

Christopher Loyke, DO, FACOFP, had this to say of his appointment, “My two greatest passions, professionally, are service and teaching. To be associated with an institution whose mission emphasizes caring for the most vulnerable in our community and to have a hand in educating future osteopathic physicians is a dream come true."

Linda Boyd, DO, discussing future plans for her work at WVSOM, says, “My immediate goal is to learn the details of the school and meet the people who work at WVSOM so I can understand the strengths and talents available. By the end of my first six months, I would like to have a clear vision of where we can take the school and to have a plan in place no later than the end of my first year."

“It’s as if I never left,” Brian Kessler, DO, FACOFP, said. “It’s very similar to when you grow up, move away and return to your childhood home—the houses in your neighborhood might look different, and the shrubbery and landscaping might not be the same, but there’s still that warmth and familiarity. I may have left Campbell in body, but never in mind and spirit.”
