AACOM Recognizes Mental Health Awareness Month with Interviews, Stories and More

Mental Health Awareness Month

Jordan Spencer, DO, PGY-3 and recent AOGME Residents and Fellows Council Vice Chair, and Tanner Dowell, current medical student at AZCOM/MWU, share their perspectives regarding mental health and wellbeing for Mental Health Awareness Month.

Jennifer Lee, fourth-year medical student at TouroCOM-NY and AACOM's recent Osteopathic Health Policy Intern, discusses her research on mental health in medicine and how to advocate to improve mental health among healthcare professionals and students.

Join the osteopathic medical education community in urging Congress to sign on to the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act, which aims to reduce and prevent mental and behavioral health conditions among healthcare professionals.


Payal Aggarwal, DO, TouroCOM-NY graduate, former board member on AACOM's Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents and current resident physician, has been working to coordinate volunteers to help with the COVID-19 pandemic response in India.


The council has prepared a framework of procedures to deploy when faced with a local, national or global crisis. Recommendations include a multi-step approach to crisis, many of which were recently utilized after the steep increase in discrimination and violence against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
