Women in Medicine Month

AACOM spoke with president of Oklahoma State University Kayse Shrum, DO, about her considerable accomplishments as a leader, her advice and words of wisdom to others, especially women, who are interested in leadership and her thoughts about the importance of supporting, recruiting and retaining women in medicine.

Women represented 51.8 percent of matriculants during the 2020 application cycle, which opened in May 2019 and closed in April 2020, with deadlines varying by college of osteopathic medicine. This number reflects an all-time high, up from 50.0 percent during the previous cycle.

Take a stand to ensure osteopathic medical education priorities are at the forefront of federal policies and programs. Hear from U.S. Representative Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), a longstanding champion of graduate medical education, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the co-chair of the House GOP Doctor’s Caucus, along with congressional staff members Stephanie Johnson and Jay Eberle. They will discuss the latest health policy developments as well as firsthand tips for successful advocacy.
