AACOM Programs & Initiatives

AACOM, along with the American Osteopathic Association and the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, has created a video welcoming new students to the profession. Share with incoming students to help them make the most of their first year of medical school.

Reinforcing its pledge to educate a generation of doctors better equipped to care for diverse patient populations, AACOM announced the launch of a new program aimed at supplementing instruction around health equity and health disparities. Part of the AACOM Academic Recognition Program, the program is accessible to every third-year medical student at all member colleges of osteopathic medicine.

Awards & Leadership

“We are thrilled to receive the recent approval by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation to move forward with recruiting, interviewing and matriculating students at Rocky Vista University’s Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine," said David Park, DO, founding dean of the Montana College. "The process of accreditation is rigorous and requires an entire team’s knowledge, experience and expertise."

“Midwestern University is committed to our proud past and strong future. At CCOM, we will build on and grow the seeds of all the wonderful initiatives started by prior administrations. As our world changes, we will adapt and grow, mindful that at the forefront is the education of future osteopathic physicians,” Laura M. Rosch, DO, CS, MS, said.

Mark A. Sanders, DO, JD, MPH, LLM, MS, has been named the new dean for the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine - Louisiana Campus (VCOM-Louisiana). He has served as interim dean since 2021.

Professional Development

It is with great pleasure that we announce the graduation of the following members of the Osteopathic Health Policy Fellowship (OHPF) Class of 2022. These nine individuals join the ranks of more than 270 osteopathic physicians and other healthcare professionals to complete the national program that prepares leaders to engage in the formulation, analysis and advocacy of policy that seeks to improve population health.

Advocacy

AACOM congratulates its nominee, Timothy J. Kowalski, DO, on his appointment to serve on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Academic Affiliations Council. Dr. Kowalski is the vice provost for professional and public relations at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine - Carolinas Campus and was appointed by VA Secretary Denis Richard McDonough.
