From the President

The theme of this year’s Black History Month is “Black Health and Wellness.” As leaders of the osteopathic medical education (OME) community, we must do everything we can to advance the mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing not only of Black patients, but also of Black healthcare professionals, medical educators and students if we wish to advance Black health and wellness this month and beyond.

Awards & Leadership

The Health Resources and Services Administration grants AACOM more than $2.2 million to promote mental health and wellness among the healthcare workforce.

Educating Leaders

AACOM is pleased to announce that Educating Leaders 2022 will host the inaugural “Dr. Meta Christy Presentation” in honor of Meta Christy, DO, the first Black osteopathic physician.

You will find more than 150 presentations on a variety of topics across the OME continuum. Whether you're following one of our six distinct tracks, browsing by category or searching presentations individually, the conference program will prepare you for the best experience.

Diversity

As one small way to honor and celebrate Black History Month, AACOM is excited to share this comprehensive list of must-read books recommended by AACOM staff and the OME community.

What does it mean to be anti-racist in medical education, and how can medical schools effect change that is both institutionally and individually transformative? To help answer these important questions, AACOM spoke with Dr. Linda Grace Solis and Dr. Rebecca Sanchez, who are co-chairing UIWSOM’s Anti-Racist Transformation in Medical Education project.

Graduate Medical Education

Peris Kibera, DO, PhD, MPH, MSW, is a first-year resident in the Transformative Care Continuum (TCC) who is working to advance research on healthy nutrition and disease. We spoke with Dr. Kibera about what attracted her to osteopathic family medicine, the TCC’s unique approach to education and training and her transformative research project being funding by the Cleveland Clinic.
