AACOM Press Statements

As a community dedicated to helping and healing others, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) stands with the people of Ukraine as they face the tragedy of war with an inspiring and heartbreaking amount of courage.

"What inspires my work and leadership? Honestly, I love seeing Black students in leadership. There is something to be said about having diverse individuals in leadership," said Jeanne Nwagwu, fourth-year medical student at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine - Virginia Campus (VCOM-Virginia), regional director of the Student National Medical Association and inaugural recipient of VCOM’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leadership Award.

"One thing I took upon myself this year was to look at hidden figures. There are so many behind the scenes who don't get as much recognition, but their but their work continues to be vital and important to the cause today," said Curtis McInnis, Jr., MA, third-year medical student at VCOM-Virginia and professional development director of the Student Osteopathic Medical Association.

AACOM Initiatives

AACOM's Board of Deans has established the UME-GME Steering Committee to address the transition from undergraduate medical education (UME) to graduate medical education (GME), improve graduate level osteopathic medical education and strengthen the osteopathic model of medical education.

This is the final week to apply for AACOM's annual, highly competitive Research Grant Program. Applications are due on March 7. Grant awardees are eligible to receive up to $5,000 for a single program or small collaborative study, and up to $10,000 for a collaborative study across multiple institutions or programs.
