March 2015 Single GME Accreditation System Update

March 31, 2015

This month, we are gearing up for exciting educational offerings on the single GME accreditation system as we approach the Joint AACOM & AODME Annual Conference taking place on April 22-25, 2015. On April 1, 2015, institutions can begin to apply for ACGME institutional sponsorship. On July 1, 2015, AOA-accredited programs can begin to apply for ACGME accreditation.

Additional developments in March include:

ACGME to Host a Series of Webinars on Single Accreditation

ACGME is offering a series of webinars to assist osteopathic program directors, program coordinators, and institutional officials on the transition to the single GME accreditation system. These series of webinars were designed by the Joint Education Committee composed of representatives from ACGME, AOA and AACOM. The first webinar on Institutional Accreditation in the Single Accreditation System will be held on March 27, 2015 from 2:00pm-3:30pm Central Time. Learn more about the upcoming webinars.

ACGME Review Committees for Family and Internal Medicine May Accept AOA Board Certifications

The Review Committees for Family Medicine and Internal Medicine have determined that an AOA-certified program director may serve without an ABMS member board certified co-program director. However, all other qualifications related requirements must still be met. This marks yet another important milestone in the transition. Read AACOM’s announcement.
