New Resource for Mental Health Awareness in OME

Through our work with AACOM member colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs)—including students, administrators, and program directors—we are gaining a better understanding of how mental health issues can affect future physicians and the patients they will serve. AACOM remains committed to an ongoing national dialogue with our osteopathic students and recognizing the contributions of the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP)—which led a milestone study focusing on the mental wellness of their peers—and their colleagues in other health care professions. We will continue to collaborate with others, inside and outside the osteopathic medical education (OME) community to raise awareness, spark dialogue, and reduce the stigma associated with mental health challenges, while we develop resources to promote wellness and empower the DO student body.
