Tornado Hits Hattiesburg, Mississippi and WCUCOM

On Saturday January 21st, 2017 a tornado hit the William Carey University campus in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The College of Osteopathic Medicine was reportedly 90% destroyed. Fortunately, all students are safe. However, the damage was significant enough that James Turner, DO, Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine announced that the college will be closed until further notice.

Both the AOA and AACOM (and its member colleges) have reached out to Dr. Turner to offer assistance. AACOM intends to work collaboratively with the AOA and Dr. Turner to help coordinate whatever aid we can to get WCUCOM back on its feet as quickly as possible with minimum disruption so that students can resume their studies.

AACOM is planning to establish a working group to help coordinate WCUCOM needs with available resources, and we will keep you informed as those activities move forward. In the meantime, please be thoughtful concerning direct communications with WCUCOM as they continue to assess their situation and needs.

What you can do now is join AACOM and others and keep both WCUCOM, and the Hattiesburg community at large, in your thoughts and prayers.
