AACOM Names Luke H. Mortensen, PhD, FAHA, Vice President for Medical Education

The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) is pleased to welcome Luke H. Mortensen, PhD, FAHA, as its new Vice President and Chair for Medical Education, effective November 26, 2012.

As Vice President and Chair for Medical Education, Dr. Mortensen will focus on promoting excellence in osteopathic medical education through expansive collaboration and work with AACOM’s member colleges. His oversight of AACOM’s Office of Medical Education will ensure the effective delivery of services and support to the colleges and will facilitate the development of new resources for osteopathic medical educators.

Before joining AACOM, Dr. Mortensen served as Professor of Physiology-Pharmacology and Director of OPTI Faculty Development at the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DMU-COM). Dr. Mortensen brings to AACOM more than 15 years of osteopathic medical education faculty and administrative experience. He has been an active member of AACOM’s Society of Medical Educators (SOME) since 2003, and in 2009, was named an inaugural Fellow of the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators (NAOME) in recognition of his outstanding scholarship. He also has served as an American Heart Association Fellow since 2000.
