On January 20, 2011, AACOM hosted an AOA-AACOM leadership meeting with Anthony J. Silvagni, DO, PharmD, Chair, AACOM Board of Deans, and Dean, Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine; Karen J. Nichols, DO, President, American Osteopathic Association (AOA); Martin S. Levine, DO, President-elect, AOA; John Crosby, JD, Executive Director, AOA; James E. Swartwout, Associate Executive Director, AOA;  Thomas Scandalis, DO, AACOM Board of Deans Executive Committee member and Dean, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of New York Institute of Technology; and Stephen C. Shannon, DO, MPH, President and CEO, AACOM, in attendance. Issues discussed at the meeting included graduate medical education, research and plans for developing a series of jointly sponsored meetings on "The Osteopathic Profession's Role and Responsibility in Meeting Americans’ Health Care Needs."
