The results of the 2012 American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Match program, a program which places graduating medical students into osteopathic graduate medical education positions for their postdoctoral training, have been announced and are current as of February 13, 2012. The application process for this year’s match began in June 2011 and ended on January 27, 2012, with the majority of student applications received by the AOA recommended date of November 1, 2011.
Out of a total of 2,655 available positions, 1,767 positions filled in the match, with 888 remaining open. Final numbers will not be available until all results are tallied following the scramble that began on February 13.
The 2012 AOA Match results and more information on the Match program can be found on the AOA Match webpage.
Graduating osteopathic medical students in the 2012 match had the benefit of a new resource to assist them in the application process, the recently published Osteopathic GME Match Report, prepared by AACOM with participation by AOA and the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners.
