SOME Steering Committee
The Society of Osteopathic Medical Educators (SOME) Steering Committee, led by Steering Committee Chair Martha Echols, PhD, MEd, Assistant Dean of Medical Education at the Nova Southeastern University-College of Osteopathic Medicine (NSU-COM), convened for its annual meeting on August 12 at AACOM’s office in Chevy Chase, MD. A working dinner the evening before was followed by a full day of discussion on the group’s agenda for the upcoming year.
The committee's imposing agenda provided much-needed opportunity for deliberation on topics such as membership engagement, the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators (NAOME), a review of the committee’s bylaws, project brainstorming and priorities, programing for the AACOM 2014 Annual Conference, and strategic planning. The group received updates on AACOM's many activities from AACOM President and CEO Stephen C. Shannon, DO, MPH; AACOM Director of Government Relations Pamela Murphy, MSW; and AACOM Associate Vice President for Medical Education Tyler Cymet, DO. These conversations provided a basis for the committee's work regarding the society's medical education projects and initiatives and how they will inform AACOM's strategic planning process.

Immediately following each meeting, the COSGP Executive Board conducts an electronic survey to solicit council member feedback on the board’s choices for speakers, activities, etc., for self-reflection and improvement of the next meeting.
