On July 20, Norman E. Vinn, DO, was inaugurated as the 117th President of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) during the AOA’s 2013 Annual Business Meeting in Chicago, IL. Dr. Vinn’s installation marked the end of the presidential term of Ray E. Stowers, DO, who has returned to his position as Dean of the Lincoln Memorial University College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM).
Dr. Vinn is an osteopathic family physician with a practice in San Clemente, CA and an alumnus of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). Throughout his many years of service with the AOA as a member of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Vinn has served as the board’s Chair of the Department of Research, Quality and Public Health, Chair of the Department of Educational Affairs, and Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. He has also served as a member of the Blue Ribbon Commission for the Advancement of Osteopathic Medical Education (BRC).
In addition to his longstanding affiliation with the AOA, Dr. Vinn is the founder of Housecall Doctors Medical Group, Inc., a home care network that provides on-site clinical services to more than 1,000 homebound elderly in Southern California. In 2011, in recognition for his commitment to and advocacy for the care of seniors and homebound patients, Dr. Vinn received the Orange County Senior Care Humanitarian Award. In 2009, he was honored as Physician of the Year by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) of California, of which he is a fellow and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of California (OPSC), of which he is a Past President. Dr. Vinn is also a founding member of the American Osteopathic Association of Medical Informatics (AOAMI).
