AACOM regularly collects data from students applying to each college of osteopathic medicine (COM)—including their gender and race/ethnicity. The following applicant reports have been made available in AACOM’s Latest Reports section:
Key findings in these reports:
The percentage of female applicants and those from underrepresented minorities (URMs) continued to increase. This year’s applicant pool reflected the highest percentage of females since 1977 and URMs since 2002. Specifically:
- Female applicants constituted 52.6 percent of the AACOMAS application pool, an increase of 1.3 percent compared from last year.
- URM applicants composed 17.0 percent of the AACOMAS pool, an increase of 0.6 percent compared from last year.
