AACOM and Its Council on Osteopathic Principles Publish New Teaching Guide

A Teaching Guide to Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

AACOM and the members of its Educational Council on Osteopathic Principles (ECOP), under the editorial guidance of Kendi Helsel, DO, PhD, have published a new educational book entitled, A Teaching Guide for Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.

A Teaching Guide for Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine was created as a tool to help medical education professionals teach the basics of osteopathic principles and practice (OPP) and osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM). The modules discussed in the text comprise the key elements of OMM and OPP, including counterstain, muscle energy, myofascial release, high-velocity low-amplitude (HVLA) thrust, soft tissue, lymphatic technique, and osteopathic cranial manipulation medicine techniques.

This new guide fills a long-standing need in the osteopathic medical education community for a teaching guide that covers the basic elements of OMM and OPP and can serve as an introduction to this distinctive form of medical treatment.

The book is available in both hard copy and Kindle eBook formats, and can be purchased on the AACOM Online Bookstore.

ECOP is an AACOM council comprised of a distinguished team of physicians and medical education professionals representing each of the nation's accredited colleges of osteopathic medicine.
