AACOM recently released the Report on Osteopathic Medical Placements in 2015 Matches, based the outcome of graduate medical education (GME) placement for DO graduates data, as of May 1. Final data will be collected as part of the annual survey of the osteopathic medical schools in fall 2015. Throughout this year’s GME match process, AACOM collected data from all of the U.S. colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs) to determine placement of DO graduates in GME. For spring 2015, 99.41 percent of graduates—5,229 future physicians—successfully placed into GME residency positions.
Key statistics of 2015 DO GME matches highlighted in the report include:
- 4.6 percent (242 DO graduates seeking GME) placed into the military match
- 52.4 percent (2,726 DO graduates seeking GME) successfully placed in the NRMP match
- 48.37 percent (2.544 DO graduates seeking GME) placed in AOA-accredited GME positions
- 7.85 percent of DO graduates seeking GME matched to other positions, while only 0.59 percent (31 DO graduates seeking GME) did not match or place in GME as of May 1.
