This month, we are gearing up for exciting educational offerings on the single GME accreditation system as we approach the Joint AACOM & AODME Annual Conference taking place on April 22-25, 2015. On April 1, 2015, institutions can begin to apply for ACGME institutional sponsorship. On July 1, 2015, AOA-accredited programs can begin to apply for ACGME accreditation.

ACGME to Host a Series of Webinars on Single Accreditation
ACGME is offering a series of webinars to assist osteopathic program directors, program coordinators, and institutional officials on the transition to the single GME accreditation system. These series of webinars were designed by the Joint Education Committee composed of representatives from ACGME, AOA and AACOM. The first webinar on Institutional Accreditation in the Single Accreditation System will be held on March 27, 2015 from 2:00pm-3:30pm Central Time. Learn more about the upcoming webinars.
ACGME Review Committees for Family and Internal Medicine May Accept AOA Board Certifications
The Review Committees for Family Medicine and Internal Medicine have determined that an AOA-certified program director may serve without an ABMS member board certified co-program director. However, all other qualifications related requirements must still be met. This marks yet another important milestone in the transition. Read AACOM’s announcement.

ACGME Annual Education Conference
ACGME’s Annual Education Conference in San Diego, CA took place on February 26-March 1, 2015. ACGME held a preconference entitled “ACGME Accreditation Pre-Conference for Osteopathic Programs and Institutions” on Thursday, February 26. There were also “sunset sessions” held during the pre-conference featuring Robert Cain, DO and Lisa DeStefano, DO, who provided updates on the osteopathic recognition and osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine requirements respectively. Joint AACOM & AODME 2015 Annual Conference

There will be several events specifically on the single GME accreditation system at the Joint AACOM & AODME 2015 Annual Conference including:
- A pre-conference OPTI workshop focused on institutional accreditation will be held on April 21, 2015.
- A plenary session featuring Thomas J. Nasca, MD, CEO, ACGME will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.
- A four-hour deep dive on the single GME accreditation system will be held during the main meeting, on Thursday, April 23. Please view the deep dive agenda here.
Special Offering: Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in individual sit-down sessions with some ACGME Executive Directors. Sessions will be available April 22 and April 24. No appointment needed.
On Friday, April 24, ACGME Walk-in Technical Support Sessions on the Application Process and the Accreditation Data System (ADS) will be offered all day. No appointment is needed. This is your opportunity to meet with an ADS representative for in-person assistance with:
- Application Process
- Case Logs
- Annual Update
- Resident and Faculty Surveys
In addition to these key events, there are several other single GME accreditation-focused sessions spanning discussions on competency-based education, to experiential discussions from institutions and programs that have embarked on the process of the transition.
