TIPS for DO Residents and Fellows

AACOM is pleased to welcome the 14th Annual Class of TIPS Fellows. The Training in Policy Studies (TIPS) Program was created to provide a year-long experience for osteopathic physicians in training—DO residents and fellows—to become familiar with health care issues as they relate to federal and state policies, and to equip them with the skills necessary to meaningfully participate in policy discussions and committee work.

Health Policy Collaboration across the Continuum of OME

The program is offered by the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYIT-COM) in collaboration with AACOM, as well as other AACOM member colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs) and the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

Graduates of the program join a cadre of health policy experts that may seek leadership roles in the osteopathic profession and/or positions of influence in health policy; and are prepared to serve on committees and task forces at the federal and state levels, testify on issues relevant to osteopathic medicine, and develop policy positions.

During the program, participants attend four intensive three-day seminars including an academic orientation, followed by rotations among COMS and the AACOM and AOA offices in Washington, D.C. Between monthly seminars, participants are expected to devote a minimum of 20 hours to research and written reports, culminating in a health policy project. The 2015-16 Class of TIPS Fellows will be attending the AACOM-focused seminar from December 9 to 11, 2015. Get details for the event here.
