AACOM is proud to announce the recipients of the 2016 Sherry R. Arnstein Minority Student Scholarship.

Awardees for this program were selected based on a rigorous evaluation of their credentials, applications, and personal essays on ways to increase student diversity in osteopathic medical school. Of the more than 80 applications submitted to the program this year, five outstanding DO students have been selected to receive scholarships—a mark of AACOM’s commitment to fostering excellence by promoting diversity in osteopathic medical education (OME).

AACOM congratulates the following students:

Anita Boakye

"From what I have observed being involved in the osteopathic community, osteopathic medicine has a very 'grassroots' feel to it. I believe that this isn’t very surprising, given that in the way osteopaths practice medicine, there is an intrinsic drive to get to know a patient not as a patient, but as an individual that is part of a community. It is to the advantage of the profession to use this trait in order to recruit and retain more underrepresented minority students."
