Fifth Anniversary of Joining Forces Initiative

his year marks the fifth anniversary of the White House Joining Forces Initiative (JFI). In recognition of this milestone, AACOM encourages students, members, and U.S. colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs) to join us in celebrating and supporting the national initiative throughout the month of April.

Enrich Medical Education

Since First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden launched Joining Forces in 2011, the medical community has stepped up and answered the call to provide quality support for veterans, service members, and their families. AACOM and its member colleges continue to work together to uphold our pledge: to leverage our missions in education, research, and clinical care in order to train the nation’s current and future physicians to meet the unique health care needs of our military and veterans communities.

Be Resourceful

AACOM and its member institutions have supported JFI through the creation of various curricular resources focused on military medicine that can be integrated throughout the medical education continuum. Visit AACOM’s Joining Forces web page to access useful tools, resources, and materials. Take initiative this April to understand and share the value of military medicine.

Take Initiative

Join forces with AACOM and your fellow members of the osteopathic medical education (OME) community this April in a joint effort to advance JFI:
  • Serve your local military and veteran community
  • Raise awareness about the unique health care needs of military service members and veterans, and promote JFI
  • Use curricular resources available on AACOM’s Joining Forces web page
  • Share your stories on social media—tag us @AACOMmunities and connect with us on the AACOM Facebook page

Look out for announcements and updates about AACOM’s upcoming JFI activities and opportunities, and visit the White House Joining Forces website for news and anniversary events.
