AACOM has joined several national health care organizations in endorsing Smiles for Life: A National Oral Health Curriculum.

The interprofessional initiative was created to support the role of primary care clinicians in promoting good oral health. Since its launch in 2005, the Smiles for Life curriculum has been revised and expanded, and today—now in its third edition—is the nation’s most comprehensive and widely-used oral health curriculum designed for primary care clinicians.

The current edition offers downloadable modules and opportunities for interactive online learning for individual clinicians, and for educators to incorporate important oral health curriculum into academic settings.

The seven module course covers the relationship of oral to systemic health, child oral health, adult oral health, dental emergencies, oral health in pregnancy, fluoride varnish, and the oral examination. A comprehensive set of educational objectives based on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) competencies, an implementation guide, and various other resources are available to enhance the role of current and future physicians in the promotion of oral health.
