Single GME Accreditation System

August 2017 SAS News & Resources Roundup

Attention! Student Clinical Rotations

Screenshot of AOA's Opportunities website

The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) maintains an online database, Opportunities, listing all currently AOA-approved programs. Though the primary purpose of the database is to research training programs for the AOA residency match, osteopathic medical students also use it to learn about clinical rotation experiences. As we transition to the single GME accreditation system, programs will achieve ACGME accreditation and will drop their AOA approval status and therefore will no longer be displayed in Opportunities. To assist students in tracking these programs, the AOA created a new list of all AOA-approved programs that fully transitioned to ACGME accreditation. View the Opportunities website to access this list.

In addition, the Opportunities website now also links to an ACGME Public Accreditation Data System (ADS) report that lists programs offering education in Osteopathic Principles and Practice. This list contains all ACGME-accredited Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM) programs and programs that have received Osteopathic Recognition. View the report for the current Academic Year 2017-2018.

Joint AACOM & AODME 2018 Annual Conference

Annual conference sphereThe Joint AACOM & AODME 2018 Annual Conference will be held on April 18-21, 2018. This conference is a great opportunity for program faculty and others to showcase their scholarly work and/or earn continuing medical education (CME) credits. Research presented at an academic, peer-reviewed national conference gives presenters a unique opportunity to explore research topics in great depth or vet ideas with an academic audience. The Call for Proposals will be issued in August, stay tuned to conference updates on the Annual Conference web page.

Individuals interested or involved in the SAS transition are also strongly encouraged to submit proposals to the 2018 conference.
