The Osteopathic Recognition Milestones are now complete and available online on ACGME's Osteopathic Principles Committee web page. An ACGME Milestones Committee developed the Milestones for Osteopathic Recognition. The Milestones Committee included representation from the Osteopathic Principles Committee (OPC). View the Osteopathic Recognition Milestones.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are developed to explain and provide details on the Osteopathic Recognition Requirements. The FAQs are a highly recommended resource to help understand the Requirements. View the Osteopathic Recognition FAQs.
Osteopathic recognition may be obtained for an entire training program or a subset of training positions within the program. The subset of training positions is referred to as “a track.”
Beginning July 1, 2015, a program may submit an application for Osteopathic Recognition if it has ACGME accreditation status or is a program with ACGME pre-accreditation status. Osteopathic Recognition cannot be conferred unless and until the applying program achieves ACGME Initial Accreditation. The application and other resources for Osteopathic Recognition are available on the Osteopathic Principles Committee web page. View the Application Instructions.
ONMM programs (like any ACGME-accredited program) may apply for Osteopathic Recognition, but it is not required that they do so.
No, programs will only need to assess residents designated for the osteopathic track on the Milestones for Osteopathic Recognition.
