VA GME Enhancement Round VII Announcement
(March 23, 2020) The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has published the Request for Proposals (RFP) for Round VII of the graduate medical education (GME) expansion as authorized by the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act. Administered by the Veterans Health Administration’s Office of Academic Affiliations, the RFP seeks applications from VA facilities that want to expand their current GME programs or affiliations and those that do not currently have a GME program. The resident positions awarded in this round will be eligible for training during academic year (AY) 2021-2022, which begins July 1, 2021. Importantly, this round is limited to 150 position awards. AACOM Partners with the VA on Informational Webinar for the OME Community
On November 27, 2018, AACOM, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA), hosted an informational webinar exclusive to the osteopathic medical education community. During the webinar, participants had the opportunity to speak with OAA officials leading the national programmatic and operational components of the VA’s efforts to enhance partnerships with its academic affiliates. On November 28, AACOM, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA), hosted an informational webinar exclusive to the osteopathic medical education community on the VA graduate medical education expansion under the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014. (March 17, 2017) AACOM is pleased to notify its membership and the osteopathic medical education (OME) community of an important opportunity to expand graduate medical education (GME) positions, as authorized by the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014 (VACAA), through collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Administered by the Veterans Health Administration’s Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA), the Request for Proposals (RFP) is seeking applications from VA facilities that want to expand their current GME programs or affiliations for Academic Year 2018-2019, which begins on July 1, 2018. Round III Announcement of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) GME Enhancement Initiative
(April 26, 2016) The Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) recently issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for GME Enhancement for physician residency positions allocated under the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014 (VACAA) signed into law on August 7, 2014. This legislation directs the VA to create 1,500 medical residency positions over five years, or to ensure that currently established graduate medical education (GME) programs have an adequate number of residency positions. Department of Veterans Affairs Announcement of Phase II of GME Enhancement VACAA Initiative
On June 15, 2015, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA) issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for GME Enhancement for residency positions allocated under the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act (VACAA). This legislation, signed into law on August 7, 2014, directs the VA to create 1,500 medical residency positions over five years (for positions beginning July 1, 2015 through 2019), or to ensure that currently established graduate medical education (GME) programs have an adequate number of residency positions. Formal applications in response to this RFP are due August 15, 2015. VA Interim Under Secretary for Health Memo on Expansion of VA GME Positions
In a recent memo to VA medical center leadership, the VA’s Interim Under Secretary for Health Carolyn Clancy, MD, expressed strong interest within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) for “innovative and creative ideas to expand GME programs”. The OAA is directing the goal by including non-traditional educational entities, “such as osteopathic postgraduate training institutions” and through supporting GME programs with a local hospital and medical school. The VA’s Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) is expected to soon issue a request for proposals for Phase II of the VACAA GME Enhancement Program for AY 2016-2017.
