Academic Recognition Program

The nation’s colleges of osteopathic medicine are committed to increasing medical student diversity and ensuring medical education is accessible to all. AACOM is helping its member colleges achieve this goal through the Academic Recognition Program, a program dedicated to supplementing instruction around health equity and health disparities.

AACOM’s Academic Recognition Program 2023-24 Health Disparities and Health Equity has officially launched and is now enrolling all interested third-year osteopathic medical students, faculty and members of the osteopathic medical education community in the program.

The program on Health Disparities and Health Equity consists of 11 modules delivered online. It was developed for osteopathic medical students and designed as a supplemental offering to help better understand disparities and where they exist across marginalized populations. Of the 11 modules, only 10 are required for completion of this program. The newest module, Maternal Justice, provides key insights into a critical issue facing the American healthcare system and aims to dismantle inequities in maternity care and maximize maternal health outcomes.

The Academic Recognition Program is non-credit-bearing and there is a $100 administrative fee. Students will receive a certificate of recognition and a lapel pin to signify completion.
