Department of Education Publishes Rulemaking Update

- On July 24, 2024, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) published a notice of proposed rulemaking for distance education, return of title IV funds and the Federal TRIO programs. Comments are due by August 23, 2024.
- In a blog post, Undersecretary of Education Kvaal announced that “proposed regulations related to State authorization, including State authorization reciprocity agreements, cash management, and accreditation will be published by next year.”
- Undersecretary Kvaal also announced that ED will undergo a negotiated rulemaking process for regulations related to third-party servicers. A timeline for this process has not yet been shared.
