Thanking Our Members

As Thanksgiving approaches, we want to take a moment to thank you for your support and dedication to graduate medical education and AOGME! This month, AACOM/AOGME continued its engagement in national graduate medical education initiatives. These included providing testimony to the ACGME National Congress related to protected time. The task force considered common and specialty-specific program requirements relating to duties, functions, dedicated time and support for program staff and leadership. I was pleased to provide testimony along with Dr. Robert Cain and Dr. Russell Maier and particularly sharing considerations for smaller, community-based, rural programs. We want to thank our members for responding to the member survey on this issue and to those who contributed to the position paper we submitted to the ACGME.

As a member of the Coalition for Physician Accountability UME-GME Transition Review Committee, I continue to represent AACOM in the group’s comprehensive look at the UME-GME transition and look forward to sharing outcomes of the work soon. In addition, Dr. Olivia Ojano Sheehan and Dr. Sandra Snyder represent the AOGME on the National Collaborative for Improving the Clinical Learning Environment (NCICLE). NCICLE provides a forum for organizations committed to improving the educational experience and patient care outcomes with the clinic learning environment. AOGME is also actively nominating leaders for national positions such as with the NRMP. On November 4, AOGME hosted a webinar update on ACGME site visits featuring Dr. Linda Andrews, Senior Vice President of Field Activities at the ACGME. View the webinar recording to review the key elements of the remote accreditation and recognition site visit program, including similarities and differences between remote and in-person site visits, preparation requirements for remote site visits, and future planning for remote and in-person site visits.  

In consideration of your time during the busy holiday season, AOGME will pause on new webinars in December and resume our webinar series in January 2021. In the meantime, members can access the on-demand webinar library, with over 50 webinar recordings offered for free to AOGME members.

2021 AOGME Awards Call for Nominations Open

The call for nominations for the 2021 AOGME Awards is now open. The AOGME Awards are presented in several categories to honor individuals for their accomplishments and service to osteopathic graduate medical education and osteopathic medicine. This year, awards are offered in three categories: Special Lifetime Achievement Award, Leadership Award and Special Award of Appreciation. Nominations are accepted until December 30, 2020.
