Osteopathic Physician-Scientist Training Programs by State

Osteopathic physician-scientist training programs (OPSTPs) are post-graduate training programs offered at the member colleges of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) through which students receive training in both osteopathic medicine and scientific research.

These programs are intended to produce physicians well-versed in basic biomedical, translational, clinical, behavioral, epidemiologic and prevention research. OPSTPs are an ideal option for students who would like to pursue careers in scientific and clinical research.

AACOM’s member colleges offer various OPSTP pathways. While most OPSTPs are dual or concurrent Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree programs offered through the COMs or their affiliated institutions, some COMs allow students to complete the DO degree through the COM and the PhD degree through another institution. Students may also complete one degree program (DO or PhD) first and then pursue the other degree or receive research training during fellowships.

Below is a list of OPSTPs by state. Please refer to the website of each AACOM member COM for more information about their OPSTPs and admissions requirements and process.
