Osteopathic Physician-Scientist Training Programs by State

Osteopathic physician-scientist training programs (OPSTPs) are post-graduate training programs offered at the member colleges of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) through which students receive training in both osteopathic medicine and scientific research.

These programs are intended to produce physicians well-versed in basic biomedical, translational, clinical, behavioral, epidemiologic and prevention research. OPSTPs are an ideal option for students who would like to pursue careers in scientific and clinical research.

Most OPSTPs are designed as dual or concurrent Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree programs, typically available through the COM or their affiliated institution. However, some COMs permit students to pursue the DO degree through the COM while completing the PhD degree at another institution. Additionally, students have the option to complete one degree first and then pursue the other, or they may receive research training during fellowships.

Below is a list of OPSTPs by state. Please refer to the website of each AACOM member COM for more information about their OPSTPs and admissions requirements and process.
