OME Community Makes Impact on GME Day of Action

On June 22, 2023, in coordination with the GME Advocacy Coalition’s GME Day of Action, AACOM encouraged the OME community to raise its voice in support of expanding graduate medical education (GME) through the Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act of 2023 (H.R. 2389/S.1302). The grassroots effort saw more than 300 messages sent to Congress in support of the legislation!
Championed by Representatives Terri Sewell (D-AL) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Susan Collins (R-ME), John Boozman (R-AR) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY), these bipartisan bills would add 14,000 new Medicare-funded GME slots and prioritize rural and medically underserved areas.
