AOGME Recorded Webinar Mental Health & Wellness

Presenter: Tyra Fainstad, MD

Think back to medical training: did you ever secretly felt like a fraud? Like someone might figure out that you weren’t supposed to be a doctor? Did you frequently stress/worry and focus on achieving your next landmark so that you can finally “feel better” (but then never actually did)? If so, you know the agony of navigating medical training while feeling like an imposter. Sadly, most of us attending physicians still feel imposter syndrome frequently at work. Fortunately, it’s easier to help your learners (and yourself!) than you think.

Join Dr. Tyra Fainstad in this important session where she unpacks unhelpful habits like perfectionism that ironically end up sabotaging your learners and help them feel more confident. As a certified professional life coach who has built a coaching curriculum to decrease burnout for medical trainees called Better Together, Dr. Fainstad feels passionate about helping to decrease this toxic syndrome. Dr. Fainstad is excited to present a few tips and tricks to get started!

The objectives of this webinar are:
1. Define imposter syndrome and understand its effects.
2. Identify the cause of imposter syndrome as an overactive inner critic.
3. Learn/practice three skills to treat imposter syndrome: (1) the re-frame, (2) perfectionism management and (3) absorbing praise effectively.
