to meet key areas of need in the growing and dynamic osteopathic profession
Senior Leadership Development Program
AACOM’s Senior Leadership Development Program (SLDP) is for individuals in senior leadership positions at U.S. colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs). The program assists new and experienced deans, current, interim, or designated deans, and others identified by their schools as potential future deans to develop and enhance critical leadership and management competencies. Its objective is to ensure that fellows have a positive impact on their institutions and that COMs have the leadership necessary to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by a dynamic health care environment.
Administrator Leadership Development Program
The Administrator Leadership Development Program (ALDP) provides training for osteopathic administrative leaders serving as department chairs, vice chairs, directors, heads, assistant deans, and associate deans who lead departments and programs at U.S. colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs). The program assists new and experienced administrators with similar academic and administrative responsibilities to develop and enhance critical leadership and management competencies.
Osteopathic Health Policy Fellowship
The AACOM Osteopathic Health Policy Fellowship (OHPF) program is a year-long leadership training program designed for practicing or teaching physicians and medical educators who are preparing for leadership roles in the profession and positions of influence in health and higher education policy. Osteopathic Health Policy Fellows attend an intensive five-day academic orientation before participating in multiple weekend seminars on important policy issues at the local, state, and federal level.
"One of the biggest assets of this program is networking and developing a deeper understanding of colleges of osteopathic medicine across the nation."
Training the Osteopathic Professions Core Educators
Teaching requires unique skills, which can be taught. Training the Osteopathic Professions Core Educators (TOPCE) is a starting point for anyone who wants to teach people to become medical professionals. TOPCE programs occur at national conferences such as Educating Leaders, the AACOM Annual Conference, the AOA OMED Conference, and local meetings at individual schools. Personalized programs for helping faculty members become better teachers can be developed in partnership with TOPCE faculty. Training can be individualized for specific school or organization needs.
Osteopathic Health Policy Internship
The Osteopathic Health Policy Internship (OHPI) Program enables osteopathic medical students to spend two consecutive months in Washington, DC at AACOM’s Office of Government Relations. To the extent practical, every effort is made to identify the two-month period that best accommodates each student's schedule. The objective of the program is to allow selected student interns to develop knowledge of federal health care and higher education policy and how to have a foundational impact on public policy formulation. The program is open to current osteopathic medical students.
