KansasCOM is centrally located in the heart of Wichita, Kansas’ largest city and a thriving, diverse center of culture and industry. Our 116,000-square-foot college of osteopathic medicine and research center provides a modern space equipped with the latest technology to deliver high-quality medical education.
Our campus features a two-story main lecture hall and a second lecture hall both designed to accommodate an interactive learning environment, as well as an Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) lab where the hands-on approach of our education model comes alive. The Research space at KansasCOM offers several offices for research faculty, as well as a classroom that supports technology to host guests virtually from our partners across the Kansas Education and Research Network (KERN).
The 22,000 square foot Simulation Center features both inpatient and outpatient wings. The inpatient wing features six highly functional inpatient hospital rooms equipped with high-fidelity, full-body manikins while the outpatient wing features the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) Suite with 12 exam rooms equipped with A/V recording devices, a control room, a debriefing and meeting room, student and standardized patient (SP) check-in, and SP lounge. Also found in the Simulation Center is a 3D Printer where interested students are introduced to the basic concepts of 3D printing and research to learn and conceptualize all of the ways this technology will be used in the future of medicine.
The Integrated Biomedical Sciences Lab comes outfitted with the latest medical technology such as Microsoft HoloLens augmented-reality headsets, Visible Human Dissector and other virtual anatomy platforms. Additionally, KansasCOM utilizes high-quality plastinated specimens to deepen students understanding of human anatomy.
Students will also gain exposure to Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) through a curriculum that uses freestanding GE HealthCare ultrasound machines, Butterfly ultrasound wands with accompanying iPads, and other Butterfly ultrasound offerings, including access to the Butterfly Academy education site and cloud storage.
Additionally, students will have access to 27 group study rooms, lounge and collaboration spaces, podcast studio, a market cafe with grab-and-go options and complimentary coffee, as well as a virtual library.

Curricular Offerings
The osteopathic approach to medicine is humanistic, integrated, and innovative.
Diverging from the traditional approach seen in many medical schools, our Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program offers students unique exposure interactive learning environments. Through a comprehensive curriculum that includes standardized patient encounters, human-patient simulations, modern medical technology, interprofessional education activities, an ultrasound program, and clinical skills labs, our students gain practical and essential experience in identifying and addressing patient needs.
We’ve developed a curriculum that can empower a community of lifelong learners and problem-solvers, capable of addressing challenges that the medical field has yet to encounter. One way we do this is by placing an emphasis on collaborative, interactive, and case-based learning. We also emphasize hands-on clinical education in years three and four to provide students with meaningful opportunities to gain real-life experience with patients from our partnerships with local physicians, hospitals, and clinical systems.
