COBRE 1: Pilot Project Program

Project Date June 2026 - May 2027

Northeast Basic Sciences and Genetics
COBRE pilot program advances pain research projects and supporting data..

The COBRE 1: Pilot Project Program, administered through the University of New England’s Center for Pain Research, is designed to catalyze new sensory and pain research at UNE by providing targeted pilot funding, core facility access, and mentored preparation for larger federal grants and publications.

The program’s annual pilot awards are intended to generate the preliminary data necessary for competitive NIH submissions (R01/R15/R21/SBIR/STTR or comparable mechanisms) and to help build a sustainable neuroscience and pain research community at UNE. Projects funded through the program are expected to make use of the Center’s Histology and Imaging Core and/or Behavior Core facilities, ensuring investigators have access to essential technical resources and expertise for rigorous experimental design and data acquisition. Eligible applicants include faculty at the University of New England and the Maine Health Institute for Research, with the exception of investigators currently receiving Institutional Development Award (IDeA) funds.
