Touro University California Students Form the Student Service Corps to Fight COVID-19
As Touro University California (TUC) transitioned to emergency remote operations in March, faculty and students from the three colleges formed the Touro Student Service Corps to give students a safe way to get involved. The corps leadership meets weekly to ensure that volunteer opportunities are safe and ready to receive student aid, and get the word out to community organizations and hospitals throughout the state so that others know Touro students are ready to serve. VCOM-Virginia Celebrates with Virtual Graduation
Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Virginia Campus (VCOM-Virginia) is proud to graduate 189 students from the class of 2020 as Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs). The virtual ceremony was held on Saturday, May 2, 2020, and was played over 3,000 times with viewers in 47 U.S. states and 21 countries. VCOM also recognized the 16 students entering the United States Military, with three entering the Army, five entering the Navy, and eight entering the Air Force. VCOM-Auburn Honors Graduates with Virtual Graduation Ceremony
Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Auburn Campus (VCOM-Auburn) recently honored its 156 spring graduates in several videos that became part of an online ceremony. The ceremony followed a traditional graduation format with speeches from college administrators, the conferral of degrees, recitation of the osteopathic oath, faculty and staff congratulatory videos, and a class memories video.
Agencies Acknowledge WVSOM for Personal Protective Equipment Donation
Local emergency agencies visited West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM)’s campus to thank the school for its donation of personal protective equipment. The school had provided Tyvek suits, gowns, surgical and KN95 masks, hand sanitizer, and digital thermometers to area ambulance and emergency management agencies, as well as fire and law enforcement agencies. Food for Thought: Local Medical School’s Focus on Nutrition
California Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine (CHSU-COM) is showing its passion for teaching medical students the basics of nutrition through team-based learning applications, case studies, and hands-on cooking classes. Through training in basic nutrition and culinary medicine, CHSU-COM students learn to think of disease prevention and management through the lens of lifestyle intervention. ICOM, Idaho State University Partner to Offer Dual DO/MHA Degree
Beginning this fall, student doctors at the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) will have the opportunity to complete a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree concurrently with their DO degree, through a partnership with Idaho State University College of Business. Two Liberty Alumni Join Forces to Gain FDA EUA Authorization of COVID-19 Test Kit
David Jack, a social entrepreneur with a background in healthcare technology and venture capital, and Sarah Robinson, a recent graduate of Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM), recently worked together to gain authorization from the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to distribute a COVID-19 test kit made by a South Korean health-care company. The test is currently in use in the US, including by FEMA, and millions are being supplied around the world. Read the full story.
CCOM Graduate Shares Honor for Military Service with WWII Veteran Grandfather
As part of a virtual graduation, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University (CCOM) 2020 graduate Brad Powszok, DO, shared a special memory with his grandfather, Vincent Bednar, a World War II Army veteran. Midwestern University presents graduates who have served, are in the military, or are entering the military following graduation with a coin to honor their service to our country. Since the ceremonies were being held virtually, Mr. Bednar was able to present this coin to his grandson, Dr. Powszok, who is beginning his medical career as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy.
