VCOM-Virginia Students Donate Snacks to Rotation Sites
The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine—Virginia Campus (VCOM-Virginia) Class of 2021 President Julianna Procaccini and other class officers applied for a grant that they used to give each of the twelve rotation sites money to buy snacks for their local rotation site hospital. "We know this virus has been hard on our health-care workers in Virginia, and we, as the Class of 2021, wanted to give back to our clinical site hospitals that gave so much to us over the last year during our clinical rotations," said Procaccini. West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM)’s Just Say KNOW educational camp moved to a virtual format this year, but that didn’t stop its high-school-aged attendees from learning about science, medicine, and the osteopathic medical school. Forty campers participated in this year’s program, which was titled “Neuroscience: Perception or Reality” and focused on the body’s sensory systems. Read more about WVSOM’s program and its successes.
PCOM Students Named to SNMA Board of Directors
The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) recently named Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) students Chantel Thompson (far left) and Omoshade Idowu to the Board of Directors. Thompson will serve as National President-Elect, and Idowu will serve as Region VIII Director, both for two-year terms. SNMA is the oldest and largest student-run organization supporting underrepresented minority medical students, with more than 7,000 members nationwide and in the Caribbean. RVU’s Dr. Cole Zanetti Appointed Senior Advisor of Veteran Health Administration Innovation Ecosystem
Rocky Vista University (RVU) has recently announced that Cole Zanetti, DO, MPH, Co-Director of RVUCOM’s Digital Health Track, has been appointed as the Senior Advisor for the Veteran Health Administration’s (VHA) Innovation Ecosystem, a program that enables health care innovation for the benefit of the veteran community. As the first osteopathic physician to serve as Senior Advisor, Dr. Zanetti will assist VHA Innovation Ecosystem in shaping the vision and strategic direction of the entire innovation arm of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). CCOM Medical Student Earns Prestigious Schweitzer Fellowship
A Midwestern University medical student has been selected for the nationally-recognized Schweitzer Fellowship, a program for graduate students who aspire to become lifelong leaders in community service. Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) student Marissa Dupont will participate in the year-long service learning program that empowers Fellows to design and implement projects that help address the health needs of underserved Chicago communities.
VCOM-Auburn ACOEP Chapter Delivers Food to Local First Responders

Members of the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine—Auburn Campus (VCOM-Auburn) chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP) delivered bagels and coffee to the East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) hospital emergency department, the EMS Station 1 crew, and the Life Saver (helicopter EMS) crew on Saturday, May 23, 2020. ACOEP members delivered the food as a way of thanking EMS personnel for their dedicated efforts during EMS Week, especially considering current circumstances.
Body Donors Memorialized for Generous Gifts to Des Moines University
On June 26, 2020, Des Moines University (DMU) honored 59 individuals, 13 of which were veterans, who generously donated their bodies to further medical education. In previous years, the annual body donor memorial drew hundreds of DMU students, employees, and donors’ families to campus. This year, the memorial was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
