Announcing Helene Cameron, PhD, MBA, as AACOM’s Vice President of Undergraduate Medical Education Services

(Bethesda, MD) – The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) is pleased to announce Helene Cameron, PhD, MBA, as the new vice president of undergraduate medical education services. Dr. Cameron has more than 20 years of academic and student affairs leadership experience, serving as a student advocate supporting students from pre-admissions to graduation and beyond. She began her new position on November 15, 2021.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Cameron to AACOM during a time of unprecedented change for both undergraduate and graduate medical education. Dr. Cameron will serve students as they apply and transition to medical school and will also enhance the medical school experience through student affairs and leadership. Dr. Cameron’s talent and expertise will help AACOM more effectively support students throughout their entire medical school journey,” said AACOM President and CEO Robert A. Cain, DO.

In her new role, Dr. Cameron will be responsible for developing comprehensive programs that support student affairs, from application to graduation. She will also function as AACOM’s primary student advocate, identifying and providing resources to assist students during medical school, while also overseeing medical school recruitment and other activities supporting student success.

“AACOM provides a unique opportunity to help aspiring physicians realize their lifelong goal. Working within a holistic environment where AACOM nurtures and assists students from medical school, residency and beyond will provide a new perspective on student recruitment and present exciting new challenges as we educate and train the next generation of DOs,” said Dr. Cameron.

Most recently, Dr. Cameron was the lead director, health sciences programs outreach at the College of Southern Maryland in La Plata, Maryland, and previously was the college’s director of advising, career and transfer services. She’s held similar roles in career service leadership at Fayetteville State University and Winston-Salem State University prior to joining the College of Southern Maryland.

Dr. Cameron received both her undergraduate and MBA degrees from Hampton University, and her PhD in Leadership Studies from North Carolina A&T State University.
