WVSOM Students, Employees Recognized with Annual Awards

During the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM)'s annual Spring Awards Ceremony, $370,076 was distributed through 30 scholarships, awards, and certificates of appreciation. The school recognized medical students for their academic and community achievements with scholarships and employees for their commitment to educate future physicians during a virtual ceremony on April 30. TCOM Class of 2023 Is Dashing to Revive an Old Tradition

Dr. Michael Smith, University of North Texas Health Science Center-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNTHSC/TCOM) Year 1 Director of Curriculum, has been sprinkling ideas throughout the calendar year to the class of 2023 about exercise and good, healthy habits. He was also searching for a way to bring back an old tradition, the "DO Dash" fundraiser and 5K race. Learn how he found a way to do both during the COVID-19 pandemic.

RVU Celebrates Class of 2020 with Virtual Commencement Ceremony 

On Friday, May 1, Rocky Vista University hosted a virtual commencement ceremony to honor the college of osteopathic medicine’s class of 2020. Graduates submitted photos of themselves in their regalia celebrating with family and loved ones. For the two weeks leading up to graduation day, Rocky Vista also shared memory photos of the graduates to celebrate the last four years of their medical school journey. DMU Students Devote More Than 5,000 Hours to Community Service

Despite the cancellation of spring break service trips due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, DMU students did not waiver in their commitment to their community. This year, 96 students, 70 of whom are in the osteopathic medical program, were awarded the Des Moines University Student Service Award, which recognizes students from the University’s eight graduate medical/health sciences programs who demonstrate efforts to improve lives in our global community through volunteerism. NYITCOM at A-State Receives $50,000 in Grants from Kays Foundation Grants

New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University (NYITCOM at A-State) recently received two grants from the Kays Foundation totaling $50,000, both of which will be used to help the medical school mentor high school and undergraduate students and help them prepare for careers in science and/or medically-related fields. The first grant will fund the newly-created “PrepAR” program aimed at assisting undergraduate students as they prepare to apply to medical school. The second will fund NYITCOM at A-State's “Summer Health Academy for Research Exploration” (SHARE) program. Learn more about both programs.

KPCOM Takes Action in COVID-19 Aid 

Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (NSU-KPCOM) OMS-I Class Board and SGA Executive at the Fort Lauderdale/Davie and Tampa Bay regional campuses raised more than $16,000 to purchase FDA-approved personal protective equipment (PPE) for Florida hospitals in need. They also purchased supplies to make about 100 care packages for the families of health care workers affected by COVID-19.

ICOM Students Assemble Face Shields for First Responders

While student doctors at the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) aren’t yet able to fight COVID-19 on the front-line, they’re finding other ways to offer support. Partnering with Brian Wiley, an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Boise State University, a group of ICOM students are helping to create hundreds of face shields for local health care professionals and first responders. Using a CNC machine and some basic supplies, the group has produced 400 face masks so far — 120 in a single day alone — with an ultimate goal of 500.
