Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Louisiana Campus (VCOM-Louisiana) hosted an Interprofessional Education (IPE) event for 270 students on the path to healthcare in the Monroe, Louisiana, community. Pharmacy students from the University of Louisiana Monroe and nursing students from Louisiana Delta Community College joined VCOM-Louisiana students as they focused on various aspects of the death and dying process from an inter-disciplinary perspective.
The goal of this event was to allow students from different disciplines to discuss a case of a patient nearing end of life and to allow them to focus on the values and ethics of providing care to such patients both individually and as a team. VCOM-Louisiana students participate in IPE events at least once per block. View more photos and stories like this on VCOM-Louisiana’s Facebook.

UNTHSC-TCOM’s Latino Medical Student Association Named Southwest Chapter of the Year

A year of hard work, volunteering and bringing the regional Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) conference to Fort Worth earned the University of North Texas Health Science Center-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNTHSC-TCOM) the LMSA Southwest Chapter of the Year. The award was an exclamation point on a weekend that saw the chapter bring the LMSA Southwest Regional Conference to the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth.
“It was definitely a lot of work, especially since we were among 27 different medical schools in our region, but I had a mission when I entered my role as president,” said Owen Sáenz, president of UNTHSC-TCOM’s LMSA Chapter. “That mission was to be the best organization. Not necessarily for the credit, but to stay true to our mission: To unite and empower our Latino community and promote Latino health.” Read more about the UNTHSC-TCOM LMSA chapter.
