ICOM Welcomes Sixth Cohort

The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) welcomed its sixth cohort of student doctors to campus on Monday, July 24, 2023, for the start of the 2023-24 academic year. The Class of 2027 consists of 162 students from across the country including 47 Idahoans and 64 matriculants from ICOM’s five-state target region. ICOM’s sixth cohort is academically strong, with an average GPA of 3.6 and an average MCAT score of 506.

“Idaho and this region continue to face an acute and growing shortage of physicians, and we know that many of these student doctors will one day return to practice medicine here,” said ICOM President Tracy J. Farnsworth, DO. Read more about the ICOM Class of 2027.


Noorda-COM Begins Matriculation for the Largest Class of Medical Students

The largest Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine (NoordaCOM) class of medical students (191) began their first day of orientation on July 24, 2023. NoordaCOM can’t wait to make history with them as they become the largest class of medical students in Utah and the first generation of students to fully access the school’s new academic building! PCOM Georgia's Impactful Medical Mission to Arusha, Tanzania

Towards the end of June 2023, 12 Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Georgia Campus (PCOM Georgia) students traveled to Arusha, Tanzania, where they spent five days volunteering in medical clinics under the direction of PCOM Georgia Professor and Chair of Clinical Education Donald W. Penney, MD, MsC. This was the second medical mission introduced on campus through the PCOM Global Health Initiative. The student-run organization, which “works to assist medical students in setting up global initiatives and international clinical rotations,” recommends at least one service trip during a student’s first or second year of study. Arizona High School Students Get Hands-On with OMM at AZCOM

From July 13-22, 2023, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) students mentored 64 high school students during the 25th annual Midwestern University Health Careers Institute for High School Students.

AZCOM faculty and mentors gave high schoolers from around Arizona an in-depth look at osteopathic medicine as a career and participated in workshops to showcase the many different aspects that make up the field of osteopathic medicine, including emergency medicine, ultrasound diagnostics and osteopathic manipulative medicine techniques.

AZCOM mentors helped attendees gain valuable information and insight on how to prepare for medical school, tips on optimizing their applications and how to find internships and shadowing.


VCOM-Louisiana Students Participate in STOP THE BLEED® Clinic

Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Louisiana Campus (VCOM-Louisiana)'s student chapters of the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP) and the Student American Association of Osteopathy hosted a STOP THE BLEED® clinic for students as a precursor to the ACOEP Bayou WAR 5K, which is held annually in November.
