The Graduate Medical Education (GME) Finance Intensive Series demystifies GME funding and equips you to communicate effectively with hospital and institutional finance. Through hands-on exercises and expert-led sessions, you’ll learn to analyze hospital data, interpret cost reports and build a compelling business case for new or expanded residency programs.

The AACOM/AOGME GME Finance Intensive Series is a cohort-based professional development program designed for leaders, educators and professionals interested in building or expanding GME programs.

This four-session virtual series provides a practical, hands-on introduction to the financial foundations that make GME possible. Participants will learn to interpret hospital cost reports, understand DGME and IME funding and develop a business case for new or expanded residency programs. 

Whether you are an experienced GME leader or exploring how your institution could support or sponsor residency training, this program will help you build the knowledge and confidence to engage meaningfully with hospital and institutional finance decision makers. 

You will learn to:

  • Decode DGME, IME and other key GME funding streams 
  • Evaluate hospital financial readiness for new programs 
  • Develop, model and present a GME pro forma and business case
  • Engage in strategic finance discussions with confidence

  • Four live 90-minute Zoom workshops held monthly
  • Optional office hours for Q&A and feedback 
  • Cohort-based for high-impact learning

  • Kick-off anticipated in January, 2026, with the last session in May
