Educating Leaders 2019, the AACOM Annual Conference, will be held at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park hotel in Washington, DC, April 9-13, 2019 (including pre-and post conference dates).
This year’s conference theme is "Big Data"—a topic that was selected for its importance, timeliness, and potential to revolutionize both medical education and health care. Participants can look forward to a wide array of presentations, workshops, poster sessions, and more. This year, several AOGME members (17) participated in the review of the abstracts for the sessions at the conference. Here is an overview of a few of the many highly-anticipated AOGME events:
- At the AOGME Annual Membership Luncheon, the AOGME chair will provide an annual report along with reports from the Secretary, Treasurer, and other councils and committees. Guest speakers will also provide updates on the single GME accreditation system, government relations, and more.
- The AOGME New Member Breakfast provides a chance for all AOGME members and potential new AOGME members to interact and network with their peers.
- The AOGME Chair’s Reception is a highlight that celebrates the dedication of leaders in the osteopathic medical education profession through the AOGME Awards and the Collegium of Fellows Induction Ceremony. It is also the official installation of the AOGME Board.

Inaugural Residents and Fellows Council Programming
An exciting new addition to Educating Leaders 2019 is programming by the AOGME Residents and Fellows Council (RFC). AACOM established the RFC this year to develop future leaders in the osteopathic profession by creating a community for them to connect, collaborate, and learn. RFC conference activities will be held April 12-13. On Friday, April 12, the RFC will hold its first face-to-face meeting during the AOGME Residents and Fellows Council Luncheon. Residents and fellows will discuss ideas on how to promote well-being along the continuum of GME, support advocacy efforts that address the needs of medical trainees, and how to better serve residents and fellows. That same day, RFC members can also look forward to the Transition to Practice Workshop, geared specifically for residents and fellows in order to equip them with the knowledge and tools to prepare for the physician job search process.
These activities will lead up to the first-ever Residents and Fellows Leadership Track on Saturday, April 13. This day-long event will engage residents and fellows on topics such as communication for effective leadership and clinical teaching skills. The workshop will include a mix of lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities.On-site registration for Educating Leaders 2019, AACOM Annual Conference is still available.
