AOGME Invites Proposals to Develop National Curriculum for Osteopathic Recognition

AACOM’s Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators (AOGME) is inviting proposals to develop a national curriculum that will assist graduate medical education (GME) training programs in obtaining and maintaining Osteopathic Recognition (OR) through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). This curriculum should be flexible enough to be delivered online or live, depending on the resources available at each program. Read the full RFP. 

Background

As we approach the conclusion of the transition period in the single GME accreditation system, Osteopathic Recognition is as an important mechanism to propagate osteopathic principles and practices in the post-graduate arena and maintain osteopathic distinctiveness. While it is understood that programs with OR must have appropriate faculty to act as hands-on trainers and Directors of Osteopathic Education (DOEs), AACOM seeks to launch an initiative to provide online support for OR programs. This is not meant to be a complete ‘turn-key’ package, but a supplement to ease the burden, especially for community-based or rural programs without a strong connection to a nearby college of osteopathic medicine (COM).

Project

The goal of this project is to create an online portal through the AACOM website with the following components:

• A clearinghouse of information for program directors and DOEs
• Resources for residents on osteopathic concepts
• Faculty development materials for residency programs concerning OR
• An online curriculum with multi-media teaching modules for OR residents
• A mechanism for formative/summative feedback and evaluation

This RFP is requesting proposals for the development of an online curriculum that can be used at programs across the country to assist in achieving and maintaining Osteopathic Recognition. COMs, sponsoring institutions, Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institutions (OPTIs), hospitals and others may already have partial or full curricula which coincide with this project. All entities are eligible to apply.

Guidelines

Proposals must include multi-media modules that are appropriate in an OR curriculum:

• The curriculum may be complete or partial, or the proposal may include a methodology for the development of such a curriculum along with a timeline for completion.
• Modules should include video instruction that can be accessed across platforms, especially with handheld devices and tablets, in addition to computers.
• Participation of residents will need to be tracked in a way that is convenient for program directors.
• A mechanism for feedback and evaluation for participants must be described.
• A description of ongoing management, continued development, oversight, and quality improvement of the project and the site should be included.

Budget and Timeline

Grant Awards

Upon review of the proposals received, all available funding may be awarded to a single applicant, partial funding to multiple applicants, or no funding at all.
