Graduates from the nation’s colleges of osteopathic medicine have various opportunities to match/place into graduate medical education (GME) residency programs. As of April 1, 2019, 98.48 percent of expected 2019 graduates seeking GME were successfully matched in positions through the AOA Match and Scramble, the NRMP Match and SOAP, the military match, and other matches/placements.
This year’s match demonstrates osteopathic medical education (OME)’s continuing contribution to the physician workforce. The commitment and dedication of over 6,400 DO graduates who successfully matched will continue as they pursue careers as physicians. As more DO graduates enter the workforce, the nation’s colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs) continue to provide medical education so that future graduates will supply quality care for the nation’s diverse medical needs.
