AACOM has recently updated its U.S. Osteopathic Medical Schools by Year of Inaugural Class reports, showing current data as of October 17, 2019 and posted under the Special Reports section of the website.

Included in the updated version of this report are two new figures—one depicting the number of established or new colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs), and the other illustrating the growth in the nation's number of new COMs. Also represented is a current roster of COMs, which includes all information used to generate the updated figures.

Some key findings in this updated report are as follows:

  • The inaugural class 2020 represented the greatest number of newly accredited COMs: a total of six new locations. Of these, one is a private institution, one is public, one is a branch campus, and three are additional locations.
  • Since 1969, COMs have opened on a regular basis. And starting in 2009, several COMs began opening additional locations.
