AACOM’s Newest Report Shows Overall Trends in First-Year Enrollment, Total Enrollment, and Graduates

See how these metrics have changed since the 1977-78 academic year.

AACOM has recently released a new report, Trends in Osteopathic Medical School Applicants, Applications, Enrollment, and Graduates. As with previous reports, applicant data are compiled from the information entered by applicants into the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service (AACOMAS) application. Enrollment and graduate data are provided by the colleges via the Annual Osteopathic Medical School Questionnaire.

Most notably, the report shows that the percent increase of U.S. osteopathic medical school applicants, first year enrollment, total enrollment, and graduates ranges between 82 percent and 87 percent since academic year 1977-78. The report also shows:

• Applicants to U.S. osteopathic medical schools are up 82 percent, between 1977-78 and 2019-20.
• First year enrollment in U.S. osteopathic medical schools is up 86 percent, between 1977-78 and 2018-19.
• Total enrollment in U.S. osteopathic medical schools is up 87 percent, between 1977-78 and 2018-19.
• Graduates of U.S. osteopathic medical schools are up 86 percent, between 1977-78 and 2017-18.
