Residency and Career Services (RCS) at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) won the 2020 Careers in Medicine (CiM) Excellence in Medical Student Career Advising Program Award, presented by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
This unique program, led by Deborah Heineman, MA, and Holly Proffitt, PhD, advises students from both NYITCOM’s Jonesboro, Arkansas and Long Island, New York campuses. While these campuses attract very different student populations with varied individual priorities for their careers, the RCS has excelled at providing resources and personalized service to both campuses’ students. Their comprehensive career development and residency curriculum spans all four years of medical education and is available to all students, despite the geographic distance and time zone differences, through online, real-time presentations.
Even throughout COVID-19, the NYITCOM RCS has adapted to unique challenges regarding changes in specialty application requirements for the 2020-2021 residency cycle. They called upon alumni to share experiences, teach interview workshops and create networking opportunities for specific specialties and programs.
AACOM congratulates NYITCOM RCS on their hard work and well-deserved recognition.
