Thank you to those who joined Educating Leaders 2021, the AACOM Annual Conference held virtually on April 20-22, 2021. We thank all AOGME members who served as abstract reviewers this year, and to those who contributed content during the conference. We also congratulate AOGME award recipients who were recognized during the conference. Awardees will also be recognized during the AOGME virtual business meeting that will be held on May 12.
This week, the Coalition for Physician Accountability released the preliminary recommendations from the UME to GME Review Committee (UGRC) for public comment. The AOGME, along with several AACOM groups, will submit comments on the recommendations. In addition, individual comments to the UGRC are encouraged. The AOGME membership discussion opportunity this month included a robust discussion on the recommendations and its impact on osteopathic graduate medical education. We are seeking additional feedback to help inform AOGME comments, please respond to this survey by May 12.
AOGME Webinar Series
This month, AOGME webinars focused on the transition to residency for medical students, with a webinar on optimizing the transition from match day to the first day of residency. In addition, Susan Sanford, JD, Trinity Health, discussed the residency contract process with students and residency advisors. On May 26, AOGME will host a webinar on best practices in telehealth for GME programs featuring Lauren Snyder, MD, from Spectrum Health Family Medicine Residency. Register for the webinar and view webinar recordings.
Save the Date: AACOM/AOGME Virtual Residency Fair
Last year, AACOM/AOGME hosted two successful virtual residency fairs, offering an opportunity for programs and osteopathic medical students to connect as COVID-19 disrupted the usual recruitment process. This year, AACOM/AOGME will also host virtual fairs, save the date for the 2021 virtual residency fair to be held on Friday, August 6, 2021. Stay tuned for registration details soon.
