Michael Clearfield, DO, Recognized for his Service to AACOM and the Osteopathic Profession

The AACOM Board Chair Special Recognition Award can be bestowed annually upon an individual who has made an incalculable impact on osteopathic medicine through many years of service to the AACOM Board of Deans. During this year’s board meeting, Margaret Wilson, DO, dean of A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, presented the AACOM Board Chair Special Recognition Award to Michael Clearfield, DO.

Dr. Clearfield served as dean of the Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine – California beginning in 2006 until his recent retirement. Previously, he was associate dean of research at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth - Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has been actively involved in AACOM for many years and served as chair of the Board of Deans from 2014-2016.

“Dr. Clearfield has distinguished himself as an educator, a researcher and a leader in osteopathic medicine.” Dr. Wilson said. “His wisdom, thoughtfulness and dedication have made AACOM a better organization and he has served as a role model to many new deans over the years. Please join me in thanking Dr. Clearfield for his service to AACOM and the profession as we recognize him with the AACOM Board Chair Special Recognition Award of 2021.”

Throughout his career he has held numerous leadership positions including appointments on the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, the AOA Bureau of Osteopathic Clinical Education and Research, president of the American College of Osteopathic Internists and chair of the AOA Council on Research.
